Our Personal Best

I became an author and stylist for women who wear plus size as an act of catharsis. Selfishly, I challenged clothing and style to facilitate the life I wanted to live but found that it connected me to my sistas in deeper ways I could never have imagined. Just when I thought it was about improving one’s appearance, I learned it was more about improving one’s life.

While a beautiful wardrobe is not the ultimate achievement in life, I’ve found, and many of my clients have found, it’s a great place to start, because it is a tangible act of self-love and self-respect.

In fact, it is the beginning of telegraphing your worth to the world. Personally, I find so many Ulla styles do just that because they’re stylish, flattering, and thankfully, comfortable. The jacket I’m wearing in our recent video is long and sleek and the camisole is rich with metallic embellishment, a pretty-combo, a power-combo. Often, the right outfit makes my confidence soar and subtly says to the world, “stand back – she’s going for it!”

This is, however, just the beginning for Ulla clothing. Some of the most beautiful items I’ve seen anywhere are about to be unveiled in our Fall and Winter collections. The hope is that our customers will love our clothing, see it as an opportunity to be their personal best and “go for it.”

So, girlfriends:

  • Where does beautiful, flattering, comfortable clothing rank in your own spectrum of being your personal best? What’s more important to you? What’s less important?
  • How can Ulla help you look and feel your personal best?

We want to help you invest in much more than clothing, we want to help you invest in being your personal best.

I have found that my clothes are an extension of me and when I look good, I feel confident. Part of being my personal best is what I project to others. My style reflects my spirit and sense of well being. I want the person I am inside to shine outward.

When a friend or coworker compliment my choices it is a real boost. I have had many friends ask me to help them shop and that I take as the highest compliment.

Ulla can help me be my personal best by continuing to provide clothes that fit well, look great and inspire confidence. Let our inner beauty come through with beautiful, stylish items.

Thank you for sharing your story and for the other comments.

It is inspiring that there are such wonderful people in the world whose stories can help another person see the best in themselves.

I am at my personal best when I feel confident and strong whether at work, at home or out with friends. I remind myself that I am a confident, capable, beautiful woman and those are all things that come from within me!

I can hold my head high knowing each day I leave my house that I do I anything I set my mind to, that my spirit shines from within! I am thankful to be alive, healthy and surrounded by people I love and who love me.

For me to feel my personal best, "flattering" clothing is tailored. Flattering & comfortable are Extremely important. How I feel when I dress in the morning, either "makes my day" or makes me lament all day (that I should have chosen to wear something else).
Ulla seems to have a variety of styles that work.

Comfort has always been my first choice in deciding what to wear. Being a big woman, it was a disaster to have to shop for clothes at all. Being able to find comfortable clothing that not only fits my shape, but makes me look good is wonderful. Since finding Ulla Popken I have also had the benefit of feeling beautiful too, which for a very long time I never thought I would ever feel again. I love the styles, the fabrics, the complete feminine aspect ...it makes me feel like me again. -Melanie Hampton

I prefer clothes that accentuate my shape & that don't look like I am "covering" or "hiding". Also, Too much fabric is often unflattering on me.
My arms are heavy, so I prefer sleeves to my elbow, even a shear sleeve is good.
Ulla shows me choices & I appreciate that.
